A distribution board, often referred to as DB, is an enclosure with 24 poles that channels electricity from the main supply to various circuits within a building. It can also be called a fuse box, panel board, or circuit breaker panel.
This component of the electricity supply system divides a power feed into smaller circuits and includes a protective fuse or circuit breaker for each one, all within a shared enclosure. It is known by different names including panelboard, breaker panel, electric panel, or DB box.
Typically, a main switch is part of the board, but more modern versions often have one or more residualcurrent devices (RCDs) or residualcurrent breakers with overcurrent protection (RCBOs).
Power separation: A distribution board divides the main power source into smaller, manageable circuits.
Protects circuits: To protect circuits from faults and overloads, a distribution board includes circuit breakers or fuses.
Controls flow: A distribution board manages the flow of electricity to ensure that devices operate properly.
Circuit isolation: A distribution board allows for easy isolation of circuits for maintenance or emergencies.
