A distribution board, often referred to as a DB, is a 12 pole surface mount box that channels electricity from the main supply to various circuits throughout a building. It is also known by other terms such as fuse box, panel board, and circuit breaker panel.
This component in an electricity supply system breaks down a power feed into smaller circuits, featuring a protective fuse or circuit breaker for each of those circuits within a shared enclosure. It can be called a panelboard, circuit breaker panel, breaker panel, electric panel, fuse box, or DB box.
Usually, it includes a main switch, but in modern designs, there may also be one or more residualcurrent devices (RCDs) or residualcurrent breakers with overcurrent protection (RCBOs).
Power separation: The distribution board divides the main power source into smaller circuits.
Protects circuits: To protect against faults and overloads, the DB is equipped with circuit breakers or fuses.
Controls flow: The distribution board manages the flow of electricity to ensure that electrical devices function properly.
Circuit isolation: A distribution board allows for easy isolation of circuits during emergencies or maintenance tasks.
