The enclosure known as a distribution board, or DB, is an 18 pole surface mount device that channels power from the main supply to various circuits throughout a building. This equipment is also known as a fuse box, circuit breaker panel, or panel board.
A distribution board serves as a component in an electrical supply network, partitioning a power feed into smaller circuits, while offering a protective fuse or breaker for each of these circuits in a shared enclosure. It may also be called a panelboard, breaker panel, electric panel, fuse box, or DB box.
Usually, a main switch is part of the board, and in more contemporary designs, it often comes with one or several residualcurrent devices (RCDs) or residualcurrent breakers with overcurrent protection (RCBOs).
Power division: A distribution board divides the major power supply into minor circuits.
Protects circuits: To protect circuits from mistakes and overloads, a distribution board is equipped with circuit breakers or fuses.
Manages electricity flow: A distribution board manages the flow of electricity to ensure that electrical appliances work efficiently.
Circuit separation: The design of a distribution board makes it easy to disconnect circuits for maintenance or in emergencies.
